Rogue River Fishing Lodge Trips

Oregon's Rogue River lodge fishing trips in the 'Wild and Scenic' Rogue River Canyon. We have a lodge schedule second to none.

The Lodging

I have guided on the Rogue River in the Fall for over 20 years and believe that our lower Rogue River lodge fishing trip lodge sequence is simply the best. Some outfitters travel as many as 23 miles on their first day. That's too far to travel. Some outfitters travel 7 miles on their second day, too short a distance to travel. We travel 15 to 16 miles each day, a distance that allows us to fish as we travel down the river without rushing the trip. You will get to the lodge in a timely manner, leaving time to shower then meet before dinner to enjoy the lodge, the scenery and your favorite beverage.

These beautiful rustic fishing lodges all had their beginning as mining claims back in the gold rush days. There are many historical pictures and memorabilia to enjoy. Our guides gladly share the history of each lodge with you at the dinner table each night. The fishing lodges are located in a remote wilderness and all food supplies, fuel and the fishing lodge staff must be shuttled by boat or 4 wheel drive vehicles. With this knowledge you have a greater appreciation for the commitment that each lodge owner makes to assure a comfortable stay for our fishing guests.

The Boats

Willie Driftboats are the driftboats of choice for our guides, they are 'Simply the best'. They are strongly built, and stand up to the rocks and ledges that we encounter traveling through the Rogue River Canyon. They respond very quickly to the precise steering that your expert guide will use while traveling through the Rogue River rapids. They are equipped with high-back seats, arm rests, thick padding and heaters if needed, providing the most comfortable ride available.

The Fishing

We fish for Chinook salmon, called King Salmon in some areas, Coho salmon or Silver salmon, and the fish that the Rogue River is known for worldwide, our Rogue River steelhead. We fish with two guests and one guide per boat and are allowed to have 12 to 14 guests per trip. We use several different fishing techniques:

  1. Backtrolling Kwikfish with medium heavy salmon rods
  2. Backtrolling steelhead lures with medium light steelhead rods
  3. Fly fishing for steelhead, 'twitching flies, and
  4. Sidedrifting, my favorite way to fish the Rogue River, using Glo Bugs or salmon roe with a noodle rod.
